  • Starting in Austin, Texas
  • Early access

Early access only: sign-ups only, no trips and no payments yet. GERZMO only switches on a use once it is legal and insured in Texas. Here's why.

How it works

Register once. You stay in charge.

The same GERZMO as everywhere else, with Texas rules applied. Any car can be registered, including cars with automated or self-driving features.

  1. Register your car

Add the make, model, license plate, ZIP code and the times it's usually parked. Free, with no listing fee.

  2. Choose what it can be used for

Tick the uses you're happy with: food pickup, passenger trips, or sharing with another driver. You can change this any time.

  3. Approve requests

When someone asks to use your car, you see the request first and say yes or no. Nothing happens without your approval.

  4. Your car is used while you're home

Once a use is legal and insured in Austin, your car can do useful work instead of sitting in the driveway.

Right now you can only join the early-access list. No US cars are registered in the app yet, no trips run and no payments are taken.

Uses

What your car could be used for in Austin

Each use is switched on separately, only once the permits and insurance it needs are in place.

Food pickup Not switched on yet

Your car collects food or shopping orders and drops them off nearby. Platforms that arrange food delivery from restaurants or shops need a state permit (TDLR). Driverless delivery for a business needs Texas DMV authorization.

Passenger trips Not switched on yet

Your car takes people where they need to go. App-booked rides fall under the transportation network company rules and need a state permit. Driverless rides for a business also need Texas DMV authorization.

Sharing with another driver Not switched on yet

Another licensed driver uses your car for the time you agree. This comes under Texas's peer-to-peer car sharing law, which has its own insurance rules.

Earnings

No promises

What a car earns, if anything, depends on real requests that are legal in Texas. Earnings are usually taxable.

Taxes and any insurance costs will be shown before anything is booked. For sharing with another driver, Texas motor vehicle rental tax may apply. We'll publish guidance before launch.

Legal notes · Texas

Before any use is switched on

GERZMO US is early access only. There are no trips and no payments until everything below is in place for a use.

No insurance partner, no trips. A GERZMO insurance partner must be confirmed for each use, and every trip must be covered by insurance that meets at least the Texas minimum, before that use opens. We haven't confirmed a partner yet.

Your own policy usually won't cover it

Personal auto insurance policies usually exclude paid trips, deliveries and sharing your car with others. Don't rely on your own policy for GERZMO.

Passenger trips and food delivery

App-booked rides come under the Texas rideshare (TNC) license rules in Occupations Code chapter 2402, and since September 1, 2025 the same chapter covers delivery network companies that arrange food delivery from restaurants or shops. Both need a TDLR permit.

Car sharing: chapter 113

Texas regulates peer-to-peer car sharing under Business & Commerce Code chapter 113 (in force since 2021). Among other things, every trip must be covered by insurance meeting at least the state minimum of 30/60/25 ($30,000 per person and $60,000 per accident for injuries, $25,000 for property damage).

Driverless use and rental tax

A business using an automated vehicle with no human driver to carry passengers or goods needs Texas DMV authorization (enforced since May 28, 2026). For sharing, Texas motor vehicle rental tax (10%) and Austin's 5% local rental tax may apply. There will be no pickups or handovers at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) during launch.

Also worth checking: paid use of your car may affect your vehicle warranty, finance and manufacturer terms. This page is general information, not legal, tax or insurance advice. Rules for other places are on the global legal notes.

Carmakers

GERZMO isn't part of any carmaker

GERZMO is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. Robotaxi and Cybercab are Tesla services.

GERZMO is not affiliated with Tesla or any carmaker. Tesla's Robotaxi service is owned and run by Tesla and booked only in Tesla's own app. GERZMO doesn't connect to it, and it can't add your car to Tesla's network. GERZMO doesn't control your car remotely and doesn't switch on self-driving features.

FAQ

Common questions

Is GERZMO a rental site?

Not mainly. You register your car and choose what it can be used for. One of those uses, sharing with another driver, comes under Texas's car-sharing law, and we follow those rules for it.

Can my car be used now?

Not yet. GERZMO US is early access only: you can join the list, but there are no trips or payments yet. Each use opens only once it's legal and insured in Texas.

How much does GERZMO cost?

Nothing. GERZMO takes 0% and there's no listing fee.

How much will I earn?

We can't say, and we don't make promises. It depends on the uses you choose, real requests, and what's legal in Texas. Earnings are usually taxable.

Does my car need to be a Tesla?

No. Any car can be registered, including ones with automated or self-driving features. GERZMO is not affiliated with Tesla or any carmaker.

Is GERZMO connected to Tesla's Robotaxi?

No. GERZMO is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Tesla, Inc. Robotaxi and Cybercab are Tesla services, booked in Tesla's own app. GERZMO can't add your car to Tesla's network. If you're an owner, you can tick a box to say you'd be interested if Tesla ever opens its network to owners, but that's not a promise that it will.

Does my own car insurance cover this?

Usually not. Personal auto policies usually exclude paid trips, deliveries and sharing. That's why each use opens only once a GERZMO insurance partner is confirmed and every trip is covered.

Is GERZMO only in Austin?

No. GERZMO is global, and Austin is one of the first places early access opens, alongside New Zealand. Owners anywhere can register in the GERZMO app, and each use stays off until it's legal where they live.

Can I pick up or return a car at the airport?

No. There will be no pickups or handovers at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) during launch.

Do I need crypto or MetaMask?

No. MetaMask is optional and crypto isn't needed. GERZMO never holds your assets and will never ask for your recovery phrase.

What happens to my sign-up details?

We keep the details you enter only to contact you about early access, until launch or until you ask us to delete them, and for at most 2 years. We don't sell or share them. See the US privacy notice and the global privacy policy.
